Wastewater Laboratory Methods

April 20, 2021 - Post Falls

Event date: 4/20/2021 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Export event

*Please note - this class will focus on process control and adjustment methods rather than how-to sampling procedures. This class is not intended to provide preparation for the Wastewater Laboratory license.

Learn all about wastewater microbiology and lab analysis, and practice with a microscope to assess your treatment process! IRWA is excited to present this class from renown Wastewater Microbiologist Toni Glymph-Martin. The class will help students understand the role of bacteria, protozoa, and metazoan in the wastewater treatment process along with instruction on how to maximize the treatment capabilities of each. Attendees will also learn how to anticipate upsets to your treatment system and troubleshoot existing treatment problems.

This course includes hands-on practice with a microscope! Learn to identify filamentous bacteria, determine favorable conditions based on your microscopic observations, and adjust your treatment process accordingly. Attendees will learn standard operating procedures to conduct laboratory analysis at their own plant. You are encouraged to bring samples of your wastewater for system-specific analysis! Bring samples from any stage of your treatment process to analyze under the microscope with the instructor.

It is recommended that attendees purchase the workbook A Wastewater Microbiology Laboratory Manual for Operators to increase learning. This book is not required but can help you develop and improve wastewater lab methods for your system.
