IRWA's 2021 Spring Conference is now being held on May 25-27 in Boise.

Idaho Rural Water Association offers training classes for drinking water and wastewater utility operations specialists as well as for other related industry professionals such as utility boards members, elected officials, clerks, and managers.  Unless otherwise specified all classes have been approved or are pending approval for drinking water or wastewater CEUs (Continuing Education Units) by the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) - formerly IBOL.

Hydrant Repair, Valves, and Troubleshooting

Join Darrel Moore with Kennedy/M & H Valve as he shares his 30+ years of experience working as a Water Operator! Learn the history of fire protection and hydrant development. This thorough class will teach you about a variety of hydrant types including those older models that many of you have in your system. Learn to tear down and reassemble a K81 hydrant. Learn safety procedures and how to test, repair, and troubleshoot hydrants under various pressure conditions. The class will also discuss the difference between resilient wedge gate valves (the newest style of gate valves) and Double Disc valves. Butterfly valve uses and operation, adjustments, costs, and installation will be taught. Check valves will also be on the agenda. Discover the differences in where they are installed, their maintenance and repair procedures. Come ask questions of our instructor and improve your understanding of these critical devices!

Please note: This class is approved for 0.6 distribution credits, which are applicable for Very Small Water System Operators.
