Encourage Proper Pesticide Disposal

Encourage Proper Pesticide Disposal

Encourage people in your community to properly dispose of unused or expired pesticides. These chemicals cannot be put in the trash, dumped down the drain, or poured out on the ground! The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) hosts collection events throughout the state for unused or expired pesticides. This includes herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, etc. If these chemicals are not used up they can be forgotten about and either improperly disposed of, used in an unsafe manner, or involved in an accident such as a spill. A chemical spill would be very difficult to clean up and would eventually harm groundwater resources. Remember, anything that goes on the ground eventually goes into our drinking water!

ISDA hosts collection events for pesticides throughout the year in every region of Idaho. Anyone can participate: homeowners, growers, pesticide dealers, professional application businesses, and agencies are all welcome. Each individual participant can dispose of up to 1,000 pounds of material free of charge!

Visit ISDA’s website for a calendar of collection dates and locations.
